This week the Minicom Blog speaks to Lars-Ingemar Lundström the author of Digital Signage Broadcasting: Content Management and Distribution Techniques. Lars comes Sweden and is quite a prolific author with this being his 10th book. During the day, he works for Teracom. Since 1989 to date he has covered most areas relating to satellite TV and the development of digital television from a consumer's perspective.
Minicom Blog: Hi Lars, thanks for joining us.
Lars-Ingemar Lundström: No problem
MB: How has the book been received?
LL: Very well. As you know this is specific reading for a fragmented market but still thus far it has been going quite well. Most of the books have been sold in North America to date and it’s quite a thick book so haven’t got that many reviews yet.
MB: How long did it take you to write it?
LL: I got the idea two years ago when I was in the final stages of my previous book, Understanding Digital Television. I have my origins in the broadcasting business and with this digital signage technology coming up thought I would combine the two.
MB: You’ve written seven books in Swedish and with English not being your mother-tongue was it hard for you to write in English?
LL: Not really. I’m familiar in English courtesy of Hollywood - watching TV, movies and the like.
MB: Being as well versed with the digital signage industry as you are, what do you see as the future for digital signage?
LL: I outline this in Chapter 12 of the book. You are going to see digital signage more at a personal level - homes will be more digital. There will be more non real-time consumption. Broadcasts will be combined with DS technology. Digital signage needs to be standardized and this should happen. There will be superior media servers and players with specific hardware for playing media.
MB: Do you have plans to write more books?
LL: It depends on what happens with this one – it’s possible. This last one consumed a lot of energy and I didn’t get to see my family much so we will have to see.
MB: Been nice speaking with you.
LL: Likewise.
